Pophams Bakery, Islington

A large service bar and two window tables for Pophams, an artisan bakery and cafe that specialises in croissants and sourdough.  Made using English Oak, the slabs for the bar and table top surfaces all come from the same tree. For the service bar two slabs were joined side by side following the growth of the trunk to make up the necessary width, with butterfly joints added to cope with seasonal movement. The bar front follows the contour of the top, rippling down with the slats graduating in shade from dark to light left to right. The two window tables were made from a single slab that was cut in half to go either side of the doorway. The legs were attached using sliding dovetail keys.  The single source of wood and simple design helped create a harmonious and calm space in busy North London.
